DSM-5 Criteria for Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) is diagnosed when persistent and excessive worry about many aspects of life is difficult to control and is accompanied by physical and emotional symptoms. Excessive anxiety and worry occurring more days than not for at least 6 months. The individual finds it difficult to control the worry .
